Our Approach: Diet, Sleep, Movement

The three most important keys to enjoying a satisfying life.

The current model of health care in this country is one symptom = one drug. Unfortunately, this model leads to significant disruption in normal physiology resulting in a cascade of symptoms that are again treated by additional medications. Moreover there is a growing trend toward lifetime drug management. In addition, the holistic health care arena has jumped on this bandwagon. Often treating the patient symptoms with the one symptom = one supplement model. This treatment model also causes a deregulation in the body’s homeostasis.

Our Philosophy is to restore balance in all of the body’s communication systems to optimize the human condition. Often we see patients that have failed in recovering from injury because their ability to produce energy was inadequate. They may have a blood sugar imbalance, thyroid dysfunction, stoke, traumatic brain injury, movement disorder, hormonal imbalance, or anemia to name a few. If a person with these energy-producing deficits is prescribed even a simple physical rehabilitation program they will fail because they cannot fuel the injured cells of their body to promote recovery. If a person pushes themselves beyond their metabolic capacity they will fail, often resulting in additional injury or illness.

Am I eating the right foods? Sounds simple, but the truth is that we are constantly bombarded with misinformation when it comes to nutrition. The fuel needed is unique to each individual’s metabolic system, food allergies, food sensitivities, gastrointestinal barrier integrity, autoimmunity, and so on. We live in a world of major food processing, genetic modification and food additives stripping our systems of the proper fuel needed to perform optimally. For most Americans the food they currently eat would be better classified as a drug than a food. Simply put you must take responsibility for the food you consume allowing your body to restore and repair daily.

Finally, correct stimulus. You can have all the right foods in the proper amounts at the right time. But if you don’t have the right stimulus then you will not reach your optimal potential. Imbalances in the immune, hormonal, structural and neurologic systems require specific treatment techniques and exercises at the right frequency and intensity to restore optimal health.

Diet

Abundant evidence suggests that the most healthful diets set aside animal products and also reduce fats in general, while including large amounts of vegetables and fruits. Eliminating meat and dairy products from your diet is a powerful step in disease prevention.

Sleep

It is distinguished from wakefulness by a decreased ability to react to stimuli, but is more easily reversed than the state of hibernation or of being comatose. Mammalian sleep occurs in repeating periods, in which the body alternates between two highly distinct modes.

Movement

The muscles that control the eye are driven by the optic tectum in the midbrain. All the voluntary muscles in the body are driven by motor neurons in the spinal cord and hindbrain. Spinal motor neurons are controlled by neural circuits of the spinal cord, and by inputs from the brain.
