Therapeutic Massage

Massage stimulates the flow of vital life energy and provides essential nurturing in a context of care and trust. Massage is an excellent way to evoke an awareness of the body, which in and of itself may stimulate positive change and improved health. Working with the doctor and other practitioners in the office, we can combine our skills to best benefit the clients’ needs.

Swedish Massage uses a variety of hand movements to relax and warm muscle tissue in preparation for deeper work, stretches muscles fibers, breaks up adhesions, stimulates the nervous system, improves circulation and promotes relaxation.  In addition, massage increases the supply of fresh nutrients to the tissues, aids in the elimination of toxins, improves muscle tone, increases range of motion and calms nervous tension.

Deep Tissue/Trigger Point Massage is a combination modality, drawing on a variety of resources. Proper application can aid in injury prevention, soft tissue repair, priming for an event, speeding up the healing process, promote decreased recovery time, and increase balance and performance. Using Deep Tissue Therapy and Trigger Point work we focus on Myofascial restrictions and adhesions in specific patterns to facilitate the body’s ability to heal, release tension, and affect proprioception (restore balance). This approach benefits health-conscience athletes.

Frequently Asked Questions
Where will my massage or bodywork session take place?
Your massage or bodywork session will take place in a warm, comfortable, quiet room. Soft music may be played to help you relax. You will lie on a table especially setup for your comfort.

Must I be completely undressed?
Most massage and bodywork techniques are traditionally performed with the client unclothed; however, it is entirely up to you what you want to wear. You should undress to your level of comfort. You will be properly draped during the entire session.

Will the practitioner be present when I disrobe?
The practitioner will leave the room while you undress, relax onto the table, and cover yourself with a clean sheet.

Will I be covered during the session?
You will be properly draped at all times to keep you warm and comfortable. Only the area being worked on will be exposed.

California Massage Certification #67968
Twin Lakes College of the Healing Arts, 2001

I began studying bodywork after/during nearly ten years of very physical manufacturing jobs. With a foundation in Swedish massage I began studying other facets of bodywork that work together in the overall healing process; Myofascial release, sports massage, trigger point work and less aggressive, subtler techniques like aromatherapy, hypnotherapy, prenatal and Reiki. After nearly four years of study I moved completely into bodywork.

My focus became very therapeutic; helping people to live and move in their bodies, to understand the importance of good nutrition and self care. To help correct the biomechanics that created the disharmony within themselves.  My style is client centered; I listen to your needs and style your session to best accomplish your goals.

Modalities offered include Deep Tissue, Swedish, Myofascial and Sports Massage. I also have training in Shiatsu, Reflexology, Feldenkrais Method®, and Active Release. I use a blend of these styles that best suit my client’s current issues.

In 1995 I attended the National Holistic Institute for a year-long intensive program intending to practice massage therapy for just a couple of years. Now, 21 years and lots of continuing education later I am still loving my work. It is incredibly rewarding to be a part of a client’s recovery from injury and breaking their cycle of pain. I am so grateful to have been able to meet so many amazing people and be a part of their healing process.

I am honored to be a part of Dr. James Cartwright’s health care team. The summer of 2016 will mark 12 years in his office. Please contact the Wellness Center @ 831.460.9200 to schedule your appointment today.
